YORK COUNTY GOP YEAR-IN-REVIEW
Merry Christmas from the York County GOP!
Like to start by thanking all of the volunteers who have helped make this a great year – from our bi-annual re-organization to our monthly meetings there are a lot of folks involved. And, while there are too many to list, there are a few folks who do way more than their fair share that require mentioning:
Treasurer Caleb Standafer, Jr. – this is not an easy job and with the SCGOP looking over our shoulder, Caleb is outstanding, making sure that we meet all the reporting requirements.
Secretary Denise Bach – Another difficult job keeping track of all our meetings (monthly and EC) and documenting them all for the record.
1st Vice Chair/Chief Marketing Officer Caitlin Boyle – Caitlin has really put a charge into our marketing efforts/social media presence.
Chairman Emeritus Larry Barnett – Larry was largely responsible in 2023 for helping to wrest control of the YCGOP from the Establishment folks and put in place an extraordinary leadership team!
Thank you ALL!
Well, it’s been a good year for the YCGOP. We began with our re-organization effort. And despite the SCGOP/Establishment’s best efforts to reclaim control of the group, the grassroots/America First members turned them back handily at our county convention!
Since then, we have hosted a number of excellent guest speakers at our monthly meetings:
May – Rep. Lee Gilreath gave a compelling presentation on the reality/dangers of Geo Engineering
June – Candidate for Comptroller General Mike Burkhold great presentation on the need for transparency in spending in Columbia
July:
SC Secretary of Education Ellen Weaver gave a review of progress in SC Education.
Wes Climer announced his candidacy to replace Ralph Norman for Congress!
Announced results of member poll – top 3 issues are 1) elections, 2) schools, and 3) spending
August – Tonya Shellnutt gave an update on Alliance Defending Freedom
September – Laura Scharr/Julie Baker gave a presentation on election integrity including a demonstration of hand-counting ballots (this was recorded for use as a training video!).
October – David Stumbo and David Pascoe, candidates for the Republican nomination for SC Attorney General gave presentations.
November/December – no monthly meetings, rather had a York County United (YCGOP, Reaganites, Moms for Liberty and Republican Women Rising) gala! A wonderful time was had by all! Guest speaker was Tina Descovich – founder of Moms for Liberty.
NOTE: You can find videos of all these events on the YCGOP Facebook page.
In addition to all of the above, our Executive Committee has been busy. They have:
Established our Bylaws, Resolutions and Endorsements Committees,
Passed a number of resolutions, including:
Reject Federal School Funding,
Condemn Murder of LaRisha Thompson,
Censure of Senator Lindsey Graham, and
Support for Justice-for-All Equal Protection Legislation
As good as 2025 has been, 2026 promises to be EVEN BETTER! More on that soon. Stay tuned!
Season’s Blessings!
Scott Anderson
