YCGOP – Freedom, Prosperity, Unity

An Introduction

Greetings! My name is Scott Anderson, and I am the newly elected Chairman of the
York County (SC) Republican Party (YCGOP) and this is the inaugural installment of
what will be a series of occasional observations regarding the local/state political scene.

2025 YCGOP County Convention

This past Saturday (4/12) the YCGOP held its biannual county convention in Rock Hill
where we elected our leaders for the next 2-year term (which began immediately) and
our 49 delegates to attend next month’s state convention. It was a well-attended (300+)
and, at times, spirited event.

Like to begin with thanks to:
– The former chair – Larry Barnett, for his leadership these last 2 years,
– Kelly McCarty and Denise Bach and the dozens of volunteers who helped them
to put on the convention,
– Sheri Few who did a fantastic job as President of the convention,
– Solicitor Kevin Brackett as parliamentarian.

Special thanks are due to the ‘loyal opposition’ who challenged for leadership and
delegate positions. We appreciate the fact that in a FREE society, competition causes
everyone to elevate their game!

Convention Results

There were challengers for Chairman and 1 st Vice Chair as well as a competing slate of
delegates to the state convention. In the end, however, your America First/MAGA slate
of leaders and delegates won the day (by margins of > 3:1).

What Lies Ahead

Over the next 2 years, our goal is to grow our membership and, thereby, our influence
with our elected officials. The YCGOP currently stands at just about 500 members.
However, in 2024:

YCGOP – Freedom, Prosperity, Unity

– 24,231 York County voters selected Donald John Trump in the Presidential
Primary (v. N. Haley), and
– 88,239 voted for DJT in the General Election in November.
Clearly, there is room for growth.

Why join us?

So, that begs the question – why should you join the YCGOP?

Well, if there’s one thing we have learned over the last 5 years of COVID hysteria, the
2020 ‘summer of love’, the ‘fortified’ election of 2020, vaccine mandates, rampant
inflation, open borders, skyrocketing crime and, now with DOGE, the obscene levels of
fraud, waste and abuse (FWA) in the public sector, is that when the citizenry is NOT
involved in public life, bad things happen!

And let us not delude ourselves that the FWA being uncovered in DC is limited to the
federal government – the states, yes, even our beloved South Carolina, have our own
issues. When you have time, please read the Republican Platform for SC (link). It is
an excellent expression of values and policy positions that embrace freedom and
prosperity. However, even though we have a Republican super-majority in SC and the
governorship, we are unable to enact laws that fully reflect these policy positions. The
people want these laws, but there are moneyed interests opposed to them and, so far,
those interests tend to win the day.

Ultimately, this is what we hope to influence – and the more of us who are involved in
this effort, the greater our influence will be.

In this regard, I am fond of a Milton Friedman quote (paraphrased), “the solution is not
to elect the right people, rather, the solution is to make it politically profitable for the
wrong people to do the right thing.”

I hope that you will consider joining us. There are several things you can do:
– Sign up for our emails at the website (yorkrepublicans.org)
– Join the organization ($35/yr)

YCGOP – Freedom, Prosperity, Unity

– Get involved – plenty of room for volunteers!! (We are ALL volunteers)

Best Regards,

Scott Anderson
YCGOP Chairman
